Do you trust your body? Yoga is more that something we do for an hour a day that makes your butt look good (but it does that too!) It is a way to honor how you want to move in your life. It is time in the day where you can be intimate with yourself and know your truth, your heart and your soul. The truth is you are capable of anything in your life! The moments that you think aren’t going your way can turn out to be the very moments that provide you with the life you want if you choose to be present and trust your body.
I got pregnant when I was 19. I was still in my sophomore year in college and I was scared! This wasn’t how it was suppose to go. I wasn’t sure I knew how to live my life yet, let alone if I could be responsible for another! I had some serious doubts, but the fact that I was pregnant and going to have a baby was a fact. It was going to happen…
My family was quick to echo my doubts back to me. The first thing I heard when I told my parents was “You’ve ruined your life.” Another family member offered to adopt my baby, without even knowing how I felt about it. Ouch! But I knew in my body that I could do this, how I wasn’t sure, but I knew I could do it. I didn’t have any proof, but I trusted myself! Had I listened to the doubts or fear stories others told me, I wouldn’t have found a way for it to work for me and my new family!
Everything worked out beautifully, but I didn’t know how it would turn out in the beginning. I had to trust what my body was telling me and take action! By trusting my body though this, I followed what worked for me so I could stay in school and create a beautiful family! Now our family mentions to my husband and I all the time how well things worked out for us. This took a deep level of trust in myself and where my body was guiding me.
Here are the steps you can take on your journey into the unknown so you can trust your body and the poses you can incorporate into your yoga practice to embody it:
5 Steps to Trust Your Body & the Yoga Poses you Need to Add to your Practice:
Breathe:
This is your life line! Whenever life seems hard, bring your awareness back to your breath. Focus on allowing your breath to move through your entire body, and notice where it may not be moving freely. These are the areas that you get to use your yoga skills to open up and release tension. To practice this, add this to your practice: box breathing
Open your heart:
We spend a lot of time defending our heart. To be present in the moment, you need to open it up! Use your breath to feel your rib cage move as you breathe and notice how you are holding your heart. Does your chest feel tight? Are you rolling your shoulders forward allowing your chest to cave in? Allowing your heart to open allows possibility to flow into the situation and create connection. To practice this, add this to your practice: Fish pose – add blocks if needed!
Honor your truth:
Share your experience. Be honest! No one else is going to have the same experience as you, or see the same things you are. This is your magic, your power, the creative juice that colors your life and the life of others. No one else is going to be able to know what you want or need. You need to speak it into life to co-create with those around you. Let your unique gifts shine and share them with others. To practice this, add this to your practice: Chanting OM or sing along to your favorite song!
Ask questions:
You are not in this alone! You don’t have to have all of the answers or figure everything out by yourself. If you don’t immediately see the gift in any situation ask to see it. Rely on your support system, ask for guidance from your Higher Self, the Universe. Asking questions allows you to tap into a new perspective that you may not have seen before and opens up more possibilities for your life. To practice this, add this to your practice: Meditation – I love this app
Take bold action:
Take the action needed to live the life you want. Make the hard choices, have the hard conversations, love beyond reason! Not taking the action of your choice creates doubt and a scattered mind making it impossible to be present in the moment. Commit to an action and don’t second guess or make yourself wrong. There is no way you can get it wrong. The more your trust yourself, the more you will be amazed at the life you will create. To practice this, add this to your practice: Headstand/Headstand-prep
